ARAD (Solo Seal), LIDTA
Born in West Yorkshire, Charlotte trained locally with the renowned ballet teacher, Dorothy Stevens MBE and with the Royal Ballet School. It was under the guidance of Dorothy Stevens, she was awarded the Royal Academy of Dance ‘Solo Seal’, the highest accolade given at the R.A.D. London HQ.
At 16, she won a place to the prestigious English National Ballet School, performing with English National Ballet in their Royal Albert Hall performances, Derek Deane’s “Swan Lake” and “Romeo and Juliet”. Two years later, after graduating from ENB, her professional career began, performing with English National Ballet and Ballet de Zaragoza, Spain. Dancing in Balanchine’s “Allegro Brilliante”, Schmidt’s “Don Juan”, Kuppe-Matt’s “Teatro’, Fokin’s “Les Sylphides” and as Clara in “The Nutcracker”.
Charlotte went on to join the Norwegian National Ballet, performing in Cranko’s “Onegin”, “The Nutcracker”, “The Sleeping Beauty” and “Swan Lake. She then moved to a warmer climate and lived and worked in Lisbon for five seasons, performing with the National Ballet of Portugal. Whilst in Portugal, she performed in many productions, including Balanchine’s “Serenade”, Fokin’s “Les Sylphides”, Stravinsky’s “Firebird”, “Giselle”, Lichine’s “Graduation Ball”, Roriz’s “Pedro and Ines” and Nijinska’s “Les Noces” and many others. She danced soloist roles, including Spoerli’s “Ever Near Ever Far”, Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker”, Roriz’s “Treze Gestos de um Corpo” and Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring”.
For the last three years, under the directorship of former English National Ballet stars, Thomas Edur and Agnes Oaks, Charlotte worked with the National Ballet of Estonia in Tallinn. Performing in all their current repertoire, including ‘Swan Lake’, Marina Kesler’s ‘Cinderella’, Thomas Edur’s ‘La Bayadere’, Gianluca Schiavoni’s ‘Medea’, Gyula Harangozó’s ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Edur’s ‘Modigliani’, Ronald Hynd’s ‘Coppelia’ and ‘Rosalinde’, Ben Stevenson’s ‘The Nutcracker’ and Kenneth MacMillan’s ‘Manon’.
Upon returning home to Yorkshire, Charlotte now teaches classes for children through to adults, with her company, Ballet North UK. She teaches ballet at schools throughout West Yorkshire and has taught company class for Matthew Bournes – New Adventures. She is also honoured to be a guest teacher of Ballet Du Ciel in Tokyo, Japan.
She is currently in the process of producing and choreographing a Gala performance, in honor of, and to celebrate the life and career or Dorothy Stevens, which will be staged at the Alhambra Theatre, Bradford on 7th November 2015.
